And finally I’m blogging about 新社Xinshe of my Taiwan Trip in Taichung!
Some background about Xinshe. Xinshe is actually very inaccessible in Taichung. Mountainous area, with only a single lane for both directional driving(Very impressed with Taiwanese’s driving skill) on some route, and completely no public transport. Fortunately, we actually found a bus company that provide transportation service in Xinshe at only 250NT per pax. Unfortunately, when we called up the company the day we reached Taichung, we found out that they have switched hands, and are no longer in operations. They did provide us the number for the other company though.
However, we woke up rather late again on that Friday. BAD MOVE. For people who intend to travel to Xinshe, I suggest starting your journey at 9am. So you got to wake up way earlier have your breakfast and leave at 9am. So you will have more time to cover more places!!
So anyway I faster call the number when I woke up and they told us that we got to reach Xinshe at 1pm if not we won’t be able to make it for the bus. So as quickly as we can, we only managed to leave our minsu at 10.30am. HAHAH damn late already. We quickly grabbed our breakfast from the breakfast place where we had discount coupons provided by the hotel, and hopped onto the first cab we saw in sight to get to Taichung Railway Station to take the bus to go up Xinshe area.
THEN here comes the change in circumstance. So as usual, super chatty Taiwanese taxi driver meet super chatty me. HAHAHAHA. And we were talking talking talking and Mr Gan asked, ”Uncle how much does it cost to hire you to bring us around Xinshe (in chinese of course)”
And the uncle quoted us 2000NT, where he will bring us to 3 places and back to our minsu at night. The uncle told us that the market rate is 3000NT and knowing that we are still poor students *sobs*, and there’s only 2 of us on travel, he decided to charge us cheaper. Okay 2000NT is about S$83 for those who are lazy to go google for the exchange rate. At that point in time we don’t know what’s the market rate, but we did a quick calculation on how much it will approximately cost us without the cab service and we found that 2000NT is very reasonable given the convenience we get and so we agreed. SUPER HAPPY US. HAAHAH. oh ya we did a quick check with another cabbie the next day and the market rate is really 3000NT for a whole day. HAHAHA so it’s lucky us.
After a series of ups and downs (literally), and enduring the violent motion sickness, we finally arrived at our first stop!
薰衣草森林 Lavender CottageAnyway a brief history of this place. It’s founded by 2 girls who wanted a secret hideout. Tadah this place is formed. HAHAHAH. ok I only can remember this. You can google and find out more about the history if you are interested ya!
Me with my post motion sickness face at the entrance
The ticket counter!
Anyway the entrance fee is 200NT but the 200NT can be used to purchase stuff inside! However if you go on the weekends, you still pay 200NT, but only 100NT can be used to purchase stuff inside. Something like a coupon?
Houses that sell stuff.
